Robbie Williams docuemntary

2023
Notes from watching-
very long-had a long career -when he first became famous he used to wake up in the morning and pinch himself
old clips of him whilst he watches back and comments -looks quite natural -sat in his own bedroom
wake up in the morning pinching himself wondering if this is really happening
a dunking into the adult world that he wasn’t ready for
no breaks inbetween just from place to place
too many interviews too many performances too many countries and then just repeat
all geared around gary
seemed like the only one
had meetings about him not being ready to be in the boy band
fans were angry at him for leaving
just partied all the time
too much too soon
didn’t wanna be a has been at 23
forgot what he was doing the job for-he wanted to be an entertainer-wanted to people to come and watch
his career was “falling off a cliff”
felt like a rocket taking off after he brought out angels
fame is like a playground
16 when he joined take that-broken teenager inside when he was older
memories of band when in 20s-hated them
jealous of gary
sorry about how hd treated gary
nobody graduates from child hood fame well balanced
couldn’t look after himself so wasn’t fit to be anyone’s partner
felt like an infant in the grown up world
intoxicating having thousands of people singing ur lyrics back to you
“this is what i’m supposed to be doing”
knew he couldn’t go back
runaway train-growing bigger and bigger
doesn’t want to watch what’s happening next
when you become famous you become something other
when he was young he was scared of the game because the time before he was so sad
found it hard deciding who to trust
as a brit there’s something special in trying to conquer america
nobody understood his jokes in usa
after stripping away drink and drugs everything that he’d suppressed came back
people thought that if good things are happening then what’s there to be upset about?
nobody knew how he woke up and was in his own head everyday
didn’t recognise himself
needed a break because of the opposing sides in his head
liked fans, liked the lifestyle but still craved normality
can never go back and undo it
wherever he and geri went the paparazzi was already there
didn’t have private personal moments
couldn’t trust anybody
talking to paparazzi gives you no good ,not talking gives no good
felt like privacy was being taken and there was nowhere to hide
speech from when he was young-felt like this is what he was born to do
himself now-scared to watch old clips cos he knows hes gonna have a nervous breakdown
didn’t like to think of the end of the tour otherwise it’d never come
felt more like a pop star outside of the UK
felt like he was reading what an aborant person he was
wanted to fast forward his performance cos he felt so uncomfortable
felt like no matter what he did in his own country the press would hate him no matter how good it was
divorced from the land that was once his
terrified to return to uk
enjoys authenticity of later episodes more than old ones
just felt guilt after leeds performance
felt like a “want monster” never satisfied with who he had
felt like it would be best if he passed away
checked into rehab before he “did something silly”
after 3 years of doing nothing he had a realisation that he needed purpose
his wife was his safety and sanctuary
joining back with take that made him better
him now-feels less heavy emotionally, can stick a pin in this and move on
-acceptance for himself
-knows he’s a different person now-had a happy ending
-feels like this is a golden era for him with his family
-on his way to being really happy
-says it’s been an adventure
Who made it-
Produced by Asif Kapadia ,Directed by Joe Pearlman-both have been involved with other celebrity documentaries-award winning-known for making human documenatries rather than glamorising.
Purpose and involvement-to come to terms with his life-he feels a lot more emotionally stable after it
Critical reviews-They argued that the release was limited and questioned whether the show provided any new insight in the lukewarm review.

'Williams is as candid as ever, and fans will relish footage of his love affairs and Take That-bashing – but do we really learn anything new?,' Anita Singh wrote.Emily Baker also argued that the release took on a 'strange format' but noted that looking back at the past might have been a 'healing' experience for Robbie.

Conclusion and link to EPQ-Overall i think that this documentary was not to gain support of fans because if it was a way to do that it wouldve showed him as a victim and showed his talents where as most of it talked about his struggles,i think it was a way to leave some of his past behind and come to terms with it.It links to my EPQ as it goes into lots of detail about his experiences with fame and therefore is useful to show the lives of celebrities
