Notes from watching-It was made after her death which shows she had no input over it which shows it wasnt just an attempt to become well liked or to earn money Directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by James Gay Rees-She cant make anymore as its after her death and she had a short but fame filled career not made by her family 2015 it shows old clips of her where she didnt know she was being filmed which shows she wasnt putting on an act -she only wanted to write songs that were personal to her -used to cover herself when she knew she was being recorded -she never thought shed get famous-she said 'I dont think i coukd handle it id go mad' -she was honest in her interviews and never tried to talk differently -her mum said 'when she made her mind up she made her mind up' -Blake Fielder (an ex ) said she 'liked to sabotage herself' -things went downhill for her when her grndma died as she always had a strong connection with her -used to drink whiskey when in the studio -had bulimia from 15 but it was ignored by family and presnters then made fun of her for her body when she became more famous -said this abut fame-'its a scary thing,its very scary' -she said 'nothing could prepare her for the stress' -she wanted to be told to stop taking drugs and drinking but nobody was pushing her to stop-her dad said she didnt need to go to rehab so she thought she didnt need to-even when she did go to rehab she went with her boyfriend at the time when doctors suggested that this wouldnt help -she found that St Lucia was a place where she didnt feel the need to take drugs but when her dad visited er he bought loads of camera men so she had no privacy and she didnt want photos with people but when she said no her dad complained -she won grammys but said too her friend'its boring without drugs' -not long before her death she said shed do anything to be able to walk down the streets again without being recognised -before her death she rung her friend and said she was sorry for the last few years, but the next day she passed away so she still never got help

Purpose and involvement

After her death so she had no involvement-she didnt know the clips wwere going to be in a docuementary therefore she acted like herself,not fake-not made by her family and not made to better her career.Its purpose seems like it was to show her struggles and what led to her death as well as showing her love for music-her father was portrayed in a bad light which shows it wasnt an attempt by her family to gain profit

Critical reviews

The director never imposes a viewpoint (he even keeps his name off the film till the end). He just interlaces, intricately and insightfully, the news and archive footage, the home movies, the concerts, the interviews… Even the villains are allowed their strut. Husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who helped Amy towards her hard drugs habit before being sent to jail, soliloquises self-servingly on the soundtrack. Mitch Winehouse — if manager-fathers are like that who needs toxic substances? — is portrayed as a self-interest industry with an exploitable prodigy of a daughter. He is shown coercing Amy into photo-opps even during downtime on a vacation island-financial times

Conclusion and link to my EPQ

Overall,I think that Amy was used to convey Amys struggles with fame and life and to show the person she was before fame,possibly to stop others from going down the same route but also to show her without and without her career.This is useful for my EPQ as it shows how music documentraies can effectively portray impacts of fame
