For each documentary that I watched,I made notes whilst waching to see what I learnt about each artist.I then thought it was important to write down immediate thoughts as well as finding other opinions and then I evaluated and decided how useful they were in answering my question.
Methods For the purpose of my research into music documentaries I will be focusing mainly on the impact of fame on the artists and how it has changed them to look for common themes, experiences and differences. I will not be focusing on the cinematography although it is important in constructing narrative and representing the artist. However, I will focus on typical conventions such as the use of flashbacks, archive footage and who is telling the story. i will be doing primary research whilst using secondary case studies.I will use the documentaries of celebrities and use articles and critics to research what other people thought about them compared to my opinions and interpretations. Some limitations of this may be that decreased engagement in the documentaries may impact my viewpoint about one or I may have a personal bias to an artist.
My research posts have helped me come to conclusions about the effectiveness of documentaries on presenting the effects of fame because they have clearly shown how some have more bias.An example of this would be in Homecoming,a film by Beyonce .I was easily able to conclude that her documentary was a way for her to promote herself as it didnt show a full backstory. My research was easy to complete because it is secondary which means I didnt have to gain data myself. However, an issue with my use of documentaries is that it is quite subjective and I may interpret the documentaries differently to others. To prove my research I also used critiques reviews to compare with mine ,most of the time my research matched with theirs.
